Monthly Medal
We start this week with a return to competitive golf after the bad weather of the previous week (although the ladies had to miss out again due to another awful Wednesday morning) with the Monthly Medal which was played on Sunday. Bob Richardson won division one with a gross 76 (nett 69), Ray Thompson finished in second with a gross 74 (nett 70) on countback from Jamie Gough also with a nett 70. In division two Bill Haykin beat David Marshall on countback, both finished with a nett 72 and Nigel Stone finished in third with a nett 73. In division three Marcus Mason took the spoils with a nett 72 on countback from Ken Wooltorton with Graham Tovey, armed with a newly fitted PING G30 driver, third with a nett 73.
Royal Cromer Pro-Am
Continuing with a competitive theme on Friday I took Captain Mark Everard, former captain Angus Smith and a friend of mine from Dereham, Stuart Bizley, to the Royal Cromer Pro-Am where we had some success in tough conditions. The team came in tied second but came third on countback with a total of five under (139) in the best two nett scores from the four to count on every hole format. For their efforts the team won a lovely, NPGA inscribed, glass decanter each, well battled team! In the Pro's individual competition I managed to come in tied fourth with a two over 74 and yes my putting was a little better but still requires a lot more work!
Generally I'm really pleased with my game at the moment and it just goes to remind me what a bit of practice can do. With having the simulator in the shop I haven't hit so many practice balls in a long time! Two years ago I was really struggling with my game, I had a big miss left and I mean a BIG miss left (sometimes 70 yards offline with the driver), but due to improved technique and the practice I have turned the big miss left in to a slight miss right and those that have had lessons with me have heard this many times before, but it's not how good your good shots are it's how good you bad ones are! Next up I have the Kings Lynn Pro-Am on Friday, 20 November with Howard Kellett, Howard Thornton and Martin Bullen where I hope my good form will continue and if I can get the wand hot, who knows!
Looking to improve your game?
Continuing the improved technique and practice theme if anyone is really keen to improve their game unrecognisably, remember for Christmas, I am offering an unlimited lesson packages for either six or 12 months. These lesson can be taken as often as you like and can include on-course lessons or anything that we feel will benefit your game. We will sit down at the start of the year, set some goals and then work out a development plan to achieve those goals. Anyone interested in purchasing these unlimited packages please let me know ASAP as places are limited due to the amount of time that will go in to these. If those packages do not appeal to you then other lesson packages are available to suit all times and budgets.

Gorleston Management Meeting
I have some good news from the Management meeting last night. We are going to get a proper parking area for the practice ground behind the tree line to the left of the dog leg on the 14th hole. I feel this will really benefit the club not only because, hopefully, it will encourage our members to use the practice area but will encourage any new golfers that I teach to use our facilities more, rather than go elsewhere, plus it will make it a lot easier for me when trying to organise group lessons, potential junior and adult new members, as we will not spend half the lesson walking to and from the practice ground and I can arrange to meet people up at the parking area. In my humble opinion it's little things like this that make a difference to people's experience of Gorleston Golf Club and I feel it's another step in the right direction for our Golf Club.
