Captain's weekend

We start this week with a fantastic Captain's weekend! 

On Saturday morning Mark Everard, this years captain, hired the World Famous Trick Shot Show artist, David Edwards. What a show it was, it wasn't just the fact that he could hit the ball with ridiculously long clubs off ridiculously long tees left handed, it was the fact that every shot went straight down the middle and almost on to the green (in fact 14 went on to the green and one even went into the hole)! 

   

It was amazing stuff and and hilariously funny with great impressions of Monty, Poulter and Miguel Angel Jiminez! It was also a great lesson for us all with the ease he was able to knock it on to the first green with just effortless power, a little technique, timing and rhythm goes a long way!!

   
 
That afternoon the members went out to play a stableford in teams of four. The best two stableford scores on every hole counted. The dads army team of Barry Manser, Wally Perring, Peter Thomson and Alex Reid ended up winning with 81 points. 

Following that we all sat down to a lovely dinner which was then followed by a fantastically funny video and commentary of the afternoons golf filmed and created by David Edwards. 

There was some great micky taking but everyone took it in the manner it was intended. To wrap things up for the day Mark held his raffle of which there were some great prizes donated and then the prize giving. 

The following morning the men returned for their individual stableford which was won by young Jamie Bool with 40 points followed by Danny Western with 39 points and Matt Alp 3rd with 38 points. 

In the afternoon the ladies joined in again for a Mixed Greensome which was won by Marieta Holmes and Alex Reid with a fantastic 44 points. The whole weekend was a success with everyone contributing nearly £5000 to Marks charity's, The Neonatal Unit at the James Paget Hospital and Centre 81. 

What a fantastic effort by everyone but mainly by Mark Everard the Captain, he and his family worked tirelessly all weekend and they deserve every bit of credit they get! I have worked closely with lots of captains at golf clubs over the last 20 years and Mark is certainly one of the best, if not the best, I have come across (even if his chipping could be a little better)!! Well done Mark! 

Ladies Millichamp Trophy

Ok next up we go back to last weeks Ladies Millichamp Trophy which was won by Pauline Phillips with a nett 73 followed by Sue Smith with a nett 74 on countback from Vonnie Thornton and Edna Langston in 4th with a nett 75. 

Mid-week Stableford

In last Thursday's Mid-week Stableford Rob Boogaard Van Den won division one with 37 points on countback from Graham Lawson and in division two Trevor Jarrod won with 38 points with Brian Rivett in 2nd with 36 points on count back from Wayman Arundle. 

 

Captain Pro Finals Day

Next Saturday we have my day, the Captain Pro Finals Day, Saturday, 19 September. It is going to be a four ball better ball stableford off 3/4 handicap. 

It will be a 1.30pm shotgun start followed by a buffet, prize giving and a few drinks. The cost will be £10.00 per player for those who have not played in the matches versus Mark and I and £5.00 each for those that have. We will have two separate prize tables, one for those that played in the matches and one for those who did not. 

There will also be one more opportunity to beat Mark and I, open to all, where you will pay £2.00 each on the day to go in to a sweep and anyone that beats Mark and I's score you will win a share of that pot in pro shop vouchers.
