As the club gears up for the biggest weekend of the year, Mark's Captain's weekend this weekend, and with weather being so bad, the last seven days or so have been relatively quiet.
This week's results
The ladies did not go on Wednesday due to the weather, who can blame them but with the weather being drier on the Thursday the men did play their Mid-week Stableford where there was a welcome return to form for Wayman Arundel who won Division Two with 42 points. Wayman's win is especially pleasing for me as it was only a month ago he was willing to give the game up, but we had a game assessment (which could not of started worse for Wayman as he literally semi-shanked three way right on the 13th tee) followed by a couple of lessons and we soon got him back on track so well done Wayman it's all easier said than done! Second in Division Two came Glenn Lark with 40 points on countback from Andrew Woodcock. Division One was a close affair with one point separating the top five. Paul Platten won with 40 points on countback from Jim Robinson and Colin Beare.
On a typical Bank Holiday Monday we had a Texas Scramble which was won by Simon and Darren Hellary, Tommy Hunt and Chris Duffy with a fantastic nett 57.4 in horrible conditions. Congratulations to them but also to everyone else who played and stayed out there in the terrible weather, true hardy Gorleston folk!
Captain's Weekend
As mentioned at the start, this weekend is Captain's weekend with lots of different competitions being played for but the highlight has to be the David Edwards' Trick Shot show on Saturday at 11.45am. If anyone has never seen David Edwards it's well worth typing his name into YouTube and taking a look at what he can do, it should be a really good show! David will then be around for the rest of the day and will no doubt have few comical observations to share about the afternoon's golf!
Captain/Pro's Day
Two weeks after that is my Captain/Pro's day on Saturday, 19 September. It is going to be a four ball better ball stableford off 3/4 handicap and will run as a 1.30pm shotgun start followed by a buffet, prize giving and a few drinks. The cost will be £10 per player for those who have not played in the matches versus Mark and I and £5 each for those that have. We will have two separate prize tables, one for those that played in the matches and one for those who did not. There will also be one more opportunity to beat Mark and I, open to all, where you will pay £2 each on the day to go in to a sweep and anyone that beats Mark and I's score you will win a share of that pot in pro shop vouchers. If you would like to play please pop in to the shop, along with payment, to enter.
Pro-Ams
I have also so put on the board a list of Pro-Ams that I'm going to play in come October and November. If you would like to play in any of them please let me know, the cost is £55 for the day including bacon rolls and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf with me, a two course dinner after plus prizes when we win!
Ok that is it for this week but remember if the weather is bad outside you are all still welcome to come and use the simulator for either, lessons, practice or play for as little as £25 per hour, that's only £6.50 each per hour if four of you were to play!
