Greetings from Duncan Abbott | Gorleston Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional | Hello golfers,
We'll start this week with our family fun day held last Saturday afternoon and what a success it was!! We had 66 players participating of which 33 were none golfers. The idea was that the golfer and the non golfer would play foursomes in a modified Stableford format with the golfer to tee off on every hole and the non golfer could use a tee peg where ever they wanted.
The format proved very popular as it gave the non golfer a real chance to give golf a go which was the whole idea of the event in an attempt to hopefully bring them back for more. After the golf we had a BBQ which also went down very well and was attended by over 100 people. My thanks go to Ruth and Jane in helping organising a fantastic afternoon, let's hope it brings some new golfers in to the club!!
Just a reminder that if any of those non golfers fancy having a real go at golf with some proper coaching, I'm holding my next Getinto Golf group sessions starting on Saturday, 26 September 11.00 - 12.15 for four consecutive weeks at a cost of £20. Any juniors fancy having another go at golf, junior group lessons are available 1.00 - 2.15 every Saturday and are free thanks to the Richard Hunt Foundation. Please contact me or my team if anyone would like to book up for those sessions or any individual lessons if you can't make those times, individual lessons start from £12 for half an hour and are available throughout the day, any day apart from Monday's.
Ladies Invitation Day
Next we go back to last Wednesday 19 August and Ladies Invitation Day which was won by Jackie Walsh, sporting her new PING custom fit irons, and her partner A. Green with a fantastic 45 points. 2nd came Maureen Dark and her partner R. Owen with 44 points on count back from Penny Platten, fresh off her captain/pro win, and her partner A. Holder in 3rd.
Thursday's Stableford
In last Thursday's Stableford, Daniel Blatchford won division 1 with 41 points with Chris Duffy in 2nd with 39 and Mat Alp in 3rd on count back also with 39. In division 2 Colin Laws won with 42 points on count back from Tony Rattlidge in 2nd.
Sunday's Stableford and Jubilee Cup
In Sunday's Stableford and Jubilee Cup, Jason Baxter finally broke his duck, after coming 2nd 3 times in the last few months with his new PING irons, and won the Jubilee Cup with 38 points on count back from Kevin Carter, Jason also won division 2 in the stableford. The division 1 stableford was won by Dave Wooden with 36 points and division 3 was won by Jack Keyzor with a fabulous 42 points in real blustery conditions.
Mixed foursomes
Last Saturday Ivan and Heather Harvey won the mixed foursomes with 36 points.
Junior Stableford
On Tuesday Jamie Bool won the Junior Stableford with 38 points on count back from Jack Butcher also with 38.
Captain Pro match
In our latest Captain Pro match Mark and I finally got back to winning ways by defeating Ady Price and Nigel Stone in horrendous conditions on Tuesday afternoon but despite the weather we all really enjoyed ourselves and it was nice for Mark and I to finally play well again, sorry Ady and Nigel!!
Finally just a reminder of a couple future events. Next weekend the 5th, 6th September sees Captains weekend and I'm especially excited to see The Dave Edwards Trick Golf Show on Saturday 5th September at 11.45. For anyone who has not seen Dave Edwards do his trick shot routine before it is a real treat and would recommend everyone to come and see this fantastic event, even if you can't play on the day it will be well worth it!!
A fortnight after Captains weekend on Saturday 19th September sees my first own Professionals Day. In previous years it was called the Nick Brown Classic but will now be called The Captain Pro Finals Day. Everyone who is a playing member with a handicap is invited. The day will start with a 1.30pm shotgun start and will be a pairs Better Ball Stableford with food and entertainment afterwards. A sheet will go up this week to advertise the event and confirm prices and then if you could enter in the shop with payment that would be great. I know you have all had a busy season but your support in this event would be much appreciated as hopefully it will be a great day!

For some of us, all we want to make the game easier is more distance, especially from iron to iron. In this video we discuss Wilson's D200 irons, clubs that certainly tick the distance box. If you are thinking about new irons and distance is a big factor for you, ask in store about the D200's... |
