Captain/Pro Match
We have to start this week with another fine win for me and the captain over the club champion Danny Perring and his partner Darren Hellary in the latest captain/pro challenge match. This time and for the first time we got ahead early and never really let go and eventually won two up. Mark played great again and any time he got in trouble, which wasn't often, I was there as back up. I think the Americans call it hamming and egging! As always the match was played in great spirit with great banter and it was a pleasure to watch, not just Danny, but also Darren strike a ball. I know it won't be long before Danny's off scratch and Darren in to category one! Next up, on Wednesday evening this time, we have immediate past Captain Angus Smith and future Captain Neil Young so best behaviour for the current captain and I, yer right!
Thursday Stableford
Anyway enough of the side show and back to the proper golfers. In last Thursday's Stableford Mark Seeley won Division One with an amazing 46 points with Tony Marsham second on 43. Division Two saw Tim Watson win with 43 points and Steven Docwra was second on 41.
Monthly Medal
On Sunday we had the monthly medal and The Malcolm King Vase, with form man Kevin Stokes winning both with a nett 66. Another form man David Uden came seconnd in Division One with a nett 70 on countback from Bob Cooper. In Division Two Stuart Pearce beat Andy Ingham and Peter Bailey on countback to win all with nett 69s. Division Three was won by Bill Haykin with a nett 67 from Peter Tindsley (nett 68) and Leon Sears also with a nett 68.
Talking of Kevin Stokes, it takes a certain type of person to be in great form and still ask for a lesson, but this is what Kevin did and fair play to him! As he said "no matter how good you are playing you can always improve" which is exactly what I like to hear and why the very top professionals are always tinkering with their game, well done Kevin! If, unlike Kevin, you are struggling with your game this season please click here to book a lesson with one of the team.
Ladies Stableford
In the Ladies Stableford last Wednesday Jayne Standen won Division One with 35 points from Jackie Walsh on countback. Sheena Emrick won Division Two with a fabulous 39 points with Vonnie Thornton second on 35. In Division Three Edna Langston won with 37 points and Lesley Court came in second with 31.
Junior Team News
Last Thursday the juniors unfortunately lost their team cup match to a very strong Newton Green side. Jamie Bool, Kasey Bailey and Jake Bailey all won their matches for the match to finish three all, but unfortunately Jamie lost at the first play-off hole to lose the match. Despite the defeat it was a great experience for all the players and I know it will make the team better players in the long term!
USPGA Sweepstake
The USPGA starts next Thursday at Whistling Straights Golf Club and as for all the four majors I am running a sweepstake again. I still have plenty of squares left at £2 a go so come in and buy one for your chance to win over £100 in pro shop vouchers!
