Lady President's Day
This week we start with the Lady President's results from last Wednesday and congratulations goes to Terri Collingwood who won with 39 points. Sheena Emrick was second with 38 points and Rosemary Woodhouse third with 37 points. Those that I spoke to had a really good day so well done to our Lady President, June Elliott, for hosting such a fantastic day! The ladies section also had a good win against Mundsley last Friday 3-0 in a friendly.
Club President's Day
Next we go to a rather wet Club President's Day last Sunday. Initially the weather was great but by 11am it had turned and because of this, the afternoon's greensomes was postponed to this Saturday. I know the Club President, Douglas Gray, was very disappointed to have to cancel the afternoon's play but at the time the weather was horrible and as it happens the weather did brighten up in the afternoon but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Back to the morning's golf and congratulations goes to David Watson who backed up his Thursday Stableford win, three days before, to shoot 40 points and win President's Day too! I only hope the lesson that David had the week before went someway to his two wins, well done David. In second place came Jason Baxter with 39 points (with his new PING G30 irons in the bag) and third was Daniel Crosby also with 39 points with his new Mizuno driving iron in the bag.
As I mentioned earlier David Watson won the Thursday Stableford in Division One with 43 points and Johnathan Ling came second with 42 points. In Division Two Marcus Mason won with a fantastic 45 points and Mel Walsh, armed with his new Wilson D200 clubs, came second with 44 points.
Gorleston gets a new accreditation...
In other news the club has just been awarded an official Golf Foundation HSBC Golf Roots Centre accreditation. On the back of this The Golf Foundation has awarded me some funding to do some coaching in the local schools which should lead, eventually, to a thriving junior section. If anyone knows a child that may be interested in giving golf a try then please bring them along to my Saturday afternoon sessions from 1pm through to 2.15pm, there is no charge for this and it is a great way to try golf in a fun environment.

Get into golf
My get into golf sessions have gone really well, my first group have done the first initial four weeks now and are all signing up for follow on sessions. My second group, an all female group, have just had their first session and all seem very keen. In total we have 10 new golfers across these groups who may go on to become members, but even if they don't at least they have had a go and may come back to golf at a later date.
The Open Sweepstake
Just a quick reminder to finish with. Remember The Open Championship starts next Thursday, 16 July, with or without Rory and there are still sweepstake squares available to give you a chance to win over £100 in pro shop vouchers! So come down to the pro shop this weekend to try your luck!
