Team Results

Unfortunately we start this week with a couple of team losses. The Men's Stenson team lost away to Felixstowe 8.5 to 3.5 on Saturday then on the Sunday our Ladies Weston Plate team lost to Bury St Edmunds 3-2. Both matches were very difficult propositions and both teams did well to make them so close!

Men's Thursday Stableford

On individual matters the Men's Thursday Stableford winners were as follows; In Division One Kelvin Gillies pipped Bob Richards on countback with a fabulous 44 points and in Division Two was won by Brian Knappett with 41 points, looks like that old putter does work after all!

Monthly Stableford

The monthly stableford played on Sunday was won by the following players; Division One was won by Darren Hellary with 41 points, now was it the lessons he had had or the new fat grip he had put on his putter or maybe it was a bit of both that contributed to his win, either way well done Darren! Division Two was won by Andy Ingham also with 41 points and in Division Three Martin Bullen pipped Mick Gallagher and Graham Tovey on countback with 42 points. Also on Sunday eight players got 2's although only six had entered the sweep and they all collect £12.67 each on to their pro shop account.

Peggy Norton Trophy

In the ladies section congratulations Chris Knappett who won the Peggy Norton Trophy on countback from Jan Parsons with 38 points. Sue Smith won Division Two with 37 points and Jan Buxton won Division Three with 30 points.

Congratulations to all the winners from this week!

Fitting Testimonial

I received a very nice email this week that I would like to share from a member of Rookery Park who came for a full bag club fitting session last week.

"Many thanks for last week's meeting and your patience in making sure I have the correct equipment suitable to me. After practicing with the new Cobra driver, 5-wood and hybrid on Friday evening before my first round in earnest with them on the Saturday, I can confirm that I am so pleased with them! As you indicated on the Thursday when I was hitting the driver to the right, I needed a little bit more swing speed and after initially hitting the driver exactly the same on the course, I found that with a longer and slightly faster backswing, I could indeed keep them pretty straight off the tee. This led to drives of around 260 yards, probably about 40 yards further than before and meant some holes I only needed a pitching wedge for the last 100 yards, although sadly sometimes I let myself down and wasted the drive! The 5-wood has also opened up new possibilities, twice I was pin high in two for the par 5's and the other two able to recover to the green in three when slightly wayward off the tee. Also previously, where some holes I had to use my driver to reach the green (i.e. 200 yards), I can now use my 5-wood and manage to hit the green in one and putt out for a birdie two. I can see the hybrid being a very much 'go to' club, this went 180 yards very straight and while my new found confidence led me to attempt a 5-wood into a green off the fairway a few times, I can also see the hybrid being a much safer shot. All in all, I can only hope that the irons when they arrive will also see the same improvement and my scores becoming very competitive. Thank you very much once again and I look forward to seeing you to collect my irons."

This email was great to receive and just goes to show what the correctly fitted clubs can do for your game!
