Suffolk Matchplay Championship

Congratulations to Danny Western who on Sunday won the Suffolk Matchplay Championship held at Gorleston. Danny put the disappointment of two weeks ago in the Suffolk Amateur behind him to lift the President's Mashie by defeating Alistair Hall in the final 2&1. It wasn't all plain sailing for Danny in the final as he was two down with five to play, but then went on to play the next four holes in two under par to win four holes in a row before closing it out on 17. Well done Danny! We should also mention that Josh Manser also did really well in reaching the semi-finals before a cold putter put pay to his efforts.

Captain/Pro Match

In another Matchplay competition, although with not quite the same prestige, Mark the Captain and I played our first Captain/Pro match against Keith Ridsdale and Eric Barnes. It was a bit of a baptism of fire for us as we were four down after five thanks to some great play by Keith including a three on the second to match my efforts, but gradually, thanks to some great putts by Mark we worked our way back in to the match, so much so that after a birdie on 14 by myself we were one up and that's when it started to go wrong again. On the 15th tee I hit a couple of dreadful tee shots and Mark didn't hit a great one either so we lost that hole. On 16 Eric holed a great putt from 10 feet to halve the hole. On 17 Keith holed a 12 footer for birdie after I just had missed mine to go one up and then on 18 Eric made a tricky six footer to win the match by one hole. It was a great match played in the right spirit, lots of banter and laughs along the way and Keith and Eric were the deserved winners, well done gents! They will now take one point head start in to the Captain/Pro grand finals day on Saturday, 19 September. If anyone else fancies taking us on please pop in and arrange a date with me. As I've said before Thursday evenings are great for Mark and I, but if not a Saturday or Sunday afternoons are a possability.

Team News

Finally, well done to the Parkes Trophy team sponsored by Steel Services who beat Felixstowe on Saturday to progress to the next round.



Divisional Stablefords

Last Wednesday the ladies played their Divisional Stablefords with Rosemary Woodhouse winning Division One with 39 points, Vonnie Thompson  winning Division Two with 32 points and Andree Bloomfield winning Division Three with 38 points. Rosemary also won the Grandma's Cup the same day. 

Past & Present Captain's Stableford

On Friday the ladies had the Past & Present Captain's Stableford competition which was won by Shelia Sterry with a fabulous 42 points. I only hope the lessons that Andree and Shelia had over the last week or so went some way to help them achieve the great scores that they have had over the last week! Well done ladies keep up the great work!
