First of all congratulations to Daniel Crosby who won the nett prize in the Suffolk Amateur at Gorleston held on Sunday in terrible conditions. Daniel shot a nett 137 for two rounds which was superb considering we had torrential rain in the morning. Other notable mentions must go to Danny Western who finished seventh in the scratch prize, Josh Manser who finished 15th in the scratch prize and Danny Perring who finished 16th in the scratch prize as well. I know Danny, Josh and Danny will be disappointed they did not do a little better at their home course but it's never as easy as you think with the pressure of expectation on your shoulders, but the way they all dealt with that pressure was commendable and I'm sure their time will come again.
Every competitor I spoke to mentioned how good condition the course was in, it really did look superb! So congratulations to Mark and his team for preparing the course so well and to the volunteers that turned up early Sunday morning to help get the course ready.
This weekend see's the Famous Grouse foursomes on Saturday and the June Medal on Sunday. Don't forget to enter the twos competition on Sunday to earn a share of the pot if you get a two or better on any hole.
Find the fairway every time
Now doesn't that sound nice! Prior to the Irish Open one commentator remarked: "Anyone who's not driving the ball well this week can forget about winning." How true. On some courses you may be able to get away with it but not at Royal County Down, especially when it's wet and windy.
Yes, holing putts is important and being able to drive the ball a mile will help, but isn't the game a lot easier when you're playing the game from the fairways?
Our advice is to try and not to let a narrow fairway faze you. So you commit fully to the shot, pick a spot in front of your ball that sits directly on your line. You should aim to force the head of your club over this spot after impact to ensure that you release it powerfully towards the target.

In the shop more and more people are booking in to the swing zone to have a club fitting or a yardage check with their clubs. I'm also starting to do a lot more coaching now which is great. What has been popular has been the 60 minute game assessment where I go out to observe you play a few holes, take notes and then discuss where and how we can improve your game. This is a great way for me to not only get to know your game, but more importantly get to know you and what makes you tick in terms of your golf.
The forecast looks great for the coming few days, let's hope summer has arrived so we will hopefully see you all up golfing over the next week or so.
