Hello golfers,

Lots to get through this week after I missed last week’s newsletter as I was away at the test match at The Oval. So we'll start this week with a fantastic win for our ladies in Quarter-finals of the Cranworth Cup last Thursday where they defeated Halesworth five matches to four at Fynn Valley. The ladies now go on to face Newton Green in the semi-finals on Thursday, 24 August at Fynn Valley again. Well done ladies and good luck in the next round.

Unfortunately, our Seniors teams didn't fare so well, both the Parkes team and the Beaumont team lost their respective matches on the same day. The Parkes lost a tough match away to Felixstowe Ferry by 15 holes and the Beaumont team lost a very close match at home to St Audry's by two holes. Bad luck gents, better luck next year.

Another loss came in the men's Stenson match away at Woodbridge which is always a tough place to go, but made even tougher with lots of the first team away watching The Open at Royal Birkdale. The remaining lads tried their best, but eventually went down 9.5 points to 2.5.

Division One - First place - Andy Garforth (40 points) and in second place - Kelvin "You've got to buy the One Length irons now" Gillies (40 points).
Division Two - First place - Kevin "Has to be most improved player this year" Shaw (42 points) and in second place - Ivan Harvey (41 points).

Lifeboat Cup Mixed Foursomes - Saturday, 22 July

First place - Mr and Mrs Woodhouse (38 points), second place - Mr M. Bullen and Mrs M. Anderson (37 points) and in third place - Mr and Mrs Amos (37 points).

Men's Monthly Medal and David Mobbs Trophy - Sunday, 23 July

Division One - First place - Ray Thomson (39 points) - David Mobbs Trophy Winner and in second place - Steve Symonds (38 points).
Division Two - First place - Andy Klein (39 points) and in second place - Arthur Fellingham (37 points).
Division Three - First place - Martin "I've finally paid for the putter I've been trying for the last 6 months" Bullen (40 points) and in second place - Barry Peake (37 points).

Mixed Roll-up Stableford - Saturday, 29 July

First place - Eddie Wright (41 points), second place - Rob Allen (41 points) and in third place - Brendan Gough (41 points).

Ladies Divisional Medal and Millichamp Trophy - Wednesday, 2 August

Division One - First place - Anne Amos (Nett 69) and in second place - Jackie Walsh (Nett 74).
Division Two - First place - Neilma Jary (Nett 74) and in second place - June Elliott (Nett 74).
Division Three - First place - Rosemary Hodgkin (Nett 74) and in second place - Maggie Hart (Nett 75).

Junior news

George Willard Cup Competition

On Sunday we had 17 juniors play in the the George Willard Cup competition (We had a least eight that were unable to play through holidays etc). We had five juniors play in the six hole competition off the blue tees where Conner Sims, aged 7, beat his best mate George Loud by a shot to win. In the nine hole competition off the red tees Abi Carr won with a superb 21 points over nine holes off her 36 handicap beating Aadi Khuruna in to second. Abi you will definitely be doing 18 holes next time. In the main 18 hole competition Charlie Peacock lived up to his superb potential and won the George Willard Cup by shooting a nett 64 beating Tom Hellary in to second with a nett 67.

Captain/Pro Challenge

Going back to a couple of weeks ago now and mine and Stuart's latest Captain/Pro Challenge match against Mark Seeley and Paul Finch. Despite me playing my best game for a while, I was a couple under on my own ball with a six down the last where the week before I'd made eagle, we were unable to beat the unstoppable force that was Seeley and Finch who "ham n egged" very well. In the end Stuart and I shot 39 points, but Mark and Paul had a best of the series so far 42 points to take a three point head start in to Finals Day. Well done gents superb play! Ps. thanks Stuart, and I'd never thought I'd say these words, for the new "selfie stick" thus the silly pose on the photo!
