Low Scoring In Thursday Midweek Stableford
Well after the fantastic scoring in last Thursday's Men Midweek Stableford it has been decided that the course is way too easy and that we are going to grow the rough even longer and make the fairways narrower. Joking aside, where did those scores come from?
For those that haven't seen the results both Ashley Harrison and Tim Watson had 45 points in Division 2 with Ashley winning on countback. Roy Jones came 3rd with 43 points but there were also 4 others who scored over 40 points. In Division 1, Andy Clifford scored 42 points to win, David Uden scored 41 points for second and Jim Robison 3rd with 40 points.
It just goes to show if you play well you can score well, it's just that you cannot get away with any loose shots at the moment. Talking of the rough, the flail machine brought in to cut the rough down, as many of you know, broke down due to damage at the previous club it was being used at. To get it repaired the part to fix it needs to come from Germany which may take a further 3 weeks but Danny and the club are in talks to bring in a different machine which does the same job but maybe slightly better, sooner.
President's Day
Continuing on the competition news front, on Sunday we had Douglas Gray's President's Day. In the morning the men played a Stableford in which Ben Leuty came out top to win with 39 points. In second place came Roger Cook with 38 points and third went to Andy Elliott with 37 points who beat Jack Flaxman and Gordon Knight on count back. In the afternoon the ladies joined in for a Mixed Greensome of which Angus and Sue Smith won with a superb 40 points.
Rob Wins The Roll Up
On Saturday we had a roll up Stableford where Rob Allen won with 40 points beating Daniel Crosby in to second by 5 points.
Ladies Medal & Win Merchant Salver
Going back to last Wednesday now, the 28th June, the ladies had a Medal and Win Merchant Salver and it was the Victoria Watson who had the best score of the day a nett 68 to win Division 2 with Vera Woolnough second with a nett 71 and Sheena Emrick third with a nett 72. In Division 1 Jan Parons beat Linda Jones on countback to win, both with nett 75s.
Jayne Only Needed 4 Clubs & Putter To Shoot 39 Points
This Wednesday, the 5th July, Thelma Evans had her Ladies President's Day, with 36 ladies competing in the 4 clubs and a putter competition. Jayne Standen won on countback from Jackie Walsh both with a very impressive 39 points with Kim Potter in third with 37 points.
Lombard Regional Qualifier
On to my golf now and Clyde Leggett and I had a great day out at Thetford last Thursday in the regional Lombard Trophy qualifier. With neither of us playing well, but thanks to some decent chipping and putting from myself and some good holes from Clyde, we managed to get it round in a level par 72 between put us in a tied 25th out of 50 pairings.
Not what we wanted when we turned up but we had a great day and we both enjoyed our playing partners company, Gary Kitley and Martin McColgan, the pro and his partner from Rookery. Thanks Clyde. Let's hope it is third time lucky next year! Tonight Stuart, The Captain, and I have David Uden and Kev Carter in our latest Captain/Pro Challenge match.
Ok a bit of forward planning now with some several big events coming up.

Eclectic Open - Sunday 30th July
On Sunday 30th July we have the Eclectic Open which is a fantastic 36 hole, pairs Foursomes tournament with loads of prizes to be won. For those who have not played in it before the Eclectic means it's your best nett score out of the 2 rounds on each hole which go towards your total and obviously Foursomes is alternate shots with your partner. Speak to Jane in the office if you would like to enter.
Richard Hunt Memorial Charity Day
Another great day fast approaching is the Richard Hunt Memorial Charity where all money raised goes towards supporting our ever growing junior section. This is great fun day, generally with a little bit of alcohol involved, and is an individual 18 hole Stableford with a buffet meal to follow plus prizes, raffles, and a, usually, very slurry speech from me on the progress of our superb junior section. If you would like to enter again speak to me or Jane.
