Competition news

On The Course...

On to competition news now and on Sunday the men had their April Stableford and Lombard Trophy Qualifier and it was that man again, Clyde Leggett, who won. Clyde returned the best score of the day, 40 points, to win Division Two and in doing so, for the second straight year, qualified to join myself in the regional qualifiers of the Lombard Trophy held at Thetford Golf Club on Thursday, 29 June. Clyde only just won the Division Two title as he only beat one of the club's form men, Peter Bailey, on countback who also had 40 points. In Division One Les Duke won with 39 points and Division Three Keith Newberry won with 39 points.

Last Thursday, 20 April saw the start of the club's popular Men's Summer Mid-week Stableford. 124 players took part in the competition which runs on most Thursdays throughout the summer. Andy Klein had the best score of the day (42 points), to win Division Two. Brian Rivett came second in Division Two with 41 points, beating Robert Jones and Barry Peake on countback. In Division One Martin Pestle won with 40 points with Lee Chapman second with 39 points and Ray Pope third with 38 points.

Finally in competition news, on Saturday, 22 April the mixed section had their latest Foursomes competition where Rosemary and Jim Wooghouse claimed the spoils with 36 points, with Jayne Standen and Peter Aldred second on 35 points beating Penny Platten and Stuart Low on countback in to third. Also on the same Saturday Bob Picton won the Roll-up Stableford with 35 points.

Course news

Course Update

On to course news now and this week has been course maintenance week where Danny and his team have been working hard, hollow tinning and putting a heavy top dressing on the greens. The hollow tinning process is to de-compact the greens and to get rid of the thatch in the greens. The top dressing, which consists of sand and seed, is then applied to fill in the holes created by the hollow tinning. This year Danny has done it slightly different and has left all of the greens the work has been done on temporary greens and they will be left on temporary greens till probably next Wednesday, 3rd May to give the greens a rest and to allow the dressing to really work it's way in to the soil. For a more detailed explanation on the work Danny is doing, he will post it on his new noticeboard which is going to be put up tomorrow (Friday), although he's not sure where yet but we will let you know.

Club news

Coming Up This Week...

With the ongoing course maintenance and the temporary greens, there is not much going on in the week ahead apart from on Sunday the juniors are have a Nine Hole Texas Scramble so the first tee will be reserved between 12:30pm and 1pm and on Bank Holiday Monday we have the Mixed, what was AM-AM but is now a Texas Scramble because of the greens, which has a shotgun start at 2:00pm but with 11 teams playing it means, although the course won't be closed it will be busy between 2pm and 4pm.
