Pros news

Swaffham Pro-Am

We'll start this week with Pro-Am news and a better performance from myself last week at Swaffham. I managed to finish sixth overall, one place out of the money, but a double bogey on my last hole which was the ninth hole at Swaffham put pay to that! The ninth hole was playing tough, it's a par four, 400 yards in to a breeze with gorse either side of the fairway, I did find the fairway, but my second shot ballooned in the breeze and came up 20 yards short of the green. I knew I was doing well and felt I had to get it up and down to finish in the money so took the high risk approach and tried to play the big high flop shot over a bunker to a tightly cut pin. Unfortunately I thinned the shot way over the back of the green and in fact did well to make a six from there. It wasn't until I got back to the clubhouse that I realised a five would have got me in the money and the disappointment sunk in. Never mind, hindsight is as they say, a wonderful thing, but it was nice to get back to playing well again.

The team consisting of Greg Carter, Andy Woodcock and Keith Wright did really well front nine, especially as Keith had a bad case on man flu, as we went out in 5-under-par, but unfortunately we let things slip on the back nine to fall out of contention. It was a great day out and we all enjoyed each other's company, just a shame we all couldn't have finished it off!

I've got a little break now from Pro-Am golf with the next ones in May. The first is at Wensum Valley on Tuesday, 9 May and the second at Bawburgh on Friday, 12 May. If anyone would like to join me, or Oli for that matter, at either of those events then please let us know. In the meantime it would be great to get the Captain/Pro matches started, Stuart and I have an availability on Thursday, 6 April if anyone is up for the challenge?

Competition news

On The Course...

On to competition news now and we'll start with last Thursday's Mid-week Stableford. On a tough day Glen Lark came in with best score of the day (40 points) to claim Division Two with Ray Garrod second with 37 points and Steve Howick third on 36. In Division One Graham Lawson pipped Martin Pestle on countback to claim first spot, both with 35 points.

On Saturday the mixed section had their latest mixed foursomes competition where new pairing of Chris Beare and Chris Knappett won with a fantastic 37 points over 16 holes beating three other pairs by six points. Also on Saturday Bob Picton won the latest Roll-up Stableford with 35 points.

On Wednesday the ladies played for their King George Cup where Marion Anderson won, along with Division Two, with a nett 70. Anne Amos came second winning Division One in the process with a nett 71 and Marieta Holmes won Division Three with a nett 70.

Academy news

Junior Golf

Don't forget that next Wednesday, 5 April and the following Wednesday, 12 April I will be holding a junior golf day on each. Basically it means the practice ground will be closed between 1:00pm and 4:00pm on those days as it will be inundated with kids having lots of fun and games.

Shop news

Battery Trade-in

On to shop news and the fantastic offers are coming thick and fast. As well as the bag trade-in deal and four dozen Titleist Pro V1 balls for the price of three offers, this week sees the start of the lithium battery trade-in deal.

Trade-in any old battery and I will give you £25 OFF any new lithium battery. So that means you can get a new lithium battery, which can have up to a full five year warranty depending on which model you choose, for only £175! That might sound a lot for a battery, but if you consider the average life of a lead acid battery these days is only about 14 months, at £80 a time, with a lithium you will not have to consider changing it for over five years. Plus the fact lithiums are so much lighter and bullet proof in terms of how you look after them, then to me, if you're looking for a new battery it's a no brainier.

FootJoy Shoe Size Challenge

We also so have another great shop offer running with FootJoy shoes. Throughout the month of April we are challenging you to come in and get your feet professionally measured by our team using our fitting brannock. Seven out of ten of you are wearing the wrong sized shoes and this can affect your performance on the golf course. If your shoes are already the correct size on the other hand, I will give you a FREE pair of FootJoy ProDry Crew socks.

New Arrivals

In other shop news we have just taken delivery of the new PING Collection summer clothing range. These great looking, quality shirts and tops start at £32.95 and come in some great colour combinations and sizes. Please pop in store to take a look.
