Hello golfers,

We'll start this week with course news and what a great start Danny has made to his new role. Already Danny and his team have done some great work on the course including re-modelling/edging some of the bunkers and clearing out the gorse on the fourth so that we can see the pin when it's on the right side of the green, in my opinion blind par threes are not a good thing. Those worried about making the 5th and 17th easier as it leaves larger bail out areas from the tee shots, it will grow back, but not as dense or as high.

The £20 trade-in discount for your old golf bag promotion continues to go well with several members taking advantage of the promotion, and trust me, the bags they traded in weren't even worth £2 let alone £20.

Competition news

On The Course...

Next, on to competition news and a relatively quiet week on the competition front, but that didn't stop Rob Allen producing his best score of the year to win the Roll-up Stableford on Saturday. Rob took advantage of the six months unlimited lesson offer in January in an effort to improve his driving which he knew was holding him back from reaching his goal of a single figure handicap. Rob's driving was so poor he wouldn't even use his driver in competitions and so was giving up valuable yardage. After having the initial game assessment we realised that Rob's poor driving of the ball, he had a bad slice, was predominantly down to how poorly he struck the driver and not necessarily down to how far right of his path his clubface was at impact. 90% of Rob's drivers were being struck right out of the heel of the club which was producing a very weak slice to the right. Straight away we got Rob doing lots of different drills to get him striking the ball out of the middle of the clubface which is starting to turn his driving in to a strength as on Saturday he hit 12 out of 15 fairways predominantly using his driver! Well done Rob, a superb 43 points brings you down closer to your goal! In second, Ian Harbord's ball striking continues to improve as he got 40 points beating Tony Marsham, armed with his new PING irons, in to third with 39 points. It's worth remembering that if you hit the ball off line a lot that it might not always be down to your clubface and path it might also be down to where you strike the ball on the clubface, it's amazing the difference it can make.

If you would like to know more about your strike then please book a lesson here.

Pros news

Great Yarmouth & Caister Pro-Am

Next on to my golf and the latest Pro-Am at Great Yarmouth & Caister. In tough conditions, there was a strong breeze and the greens had undergone a lot of work, I played quite nicely but a quadruple bogey eight on the 10th put pay to me having any chance of winning. However my team, consisting of Steve Heard, Lee Whiley and Shaun Crick did really well to finish fourth place on 4-under-par but unfortunately just outside the prizes. Lee did manage to pick up the nearest the pin prize on 12th though so at least he didn't go away empty handed. Thanks gents I had a really good day and it was great to play with Lee and Shaun for the first time, keep an eye on those two guys in upcoming club competitions, I'm sure those handicaps will come tumbling down.

Next I'm off to Sheringham tomorrow with Steve Heard again, Mark Everard and Ray Pope and Oli's taking Daniel Crosby, Ray Thomson and Ben Leuty so it should be a good day!
