Hello golfers,
A very brief newsletter this week as I'm fully booked with lessons today (Wednesday), away playing in a Pro-Am tomorrow at Great Yarmouth & Caister with Shaun Crick, Lee Whiley and Steve Heard and then off Friday and at the weekend to go to Legoland for my little boy's birthday.
Pro/Captain Challenge
Firstly we'll start with the Pro/Captain Challenge for this year where Club Captain Stuart Low and myself welcome all challengers to an 18 hole fourball betterball stableford match (3/4 handicap). The format has changed this year from matchplay to stableford so that you can still play in the Mid-week Stableford if you would like. If you win by five points over 18 holes you will then get a five point head start in the Captain/Pro Fourball Betterball Stableford on Saturday, 7 October. The price to play these challenges is £15 per pair and all the entry goes in to the Grand Final prize table where last year we had over £600 of prizes to play for! These are great matches to play in and a lot of fun. It gives both Stuart and I a great opportunity to play with those members that we would not normally do so. The list of dates are below and if you would like to challenge us please contact me here and I'll book you in, but please don't leave it too late as last year we ran out of dates to play everyone so some missed out. Dates are as follows:
Thursday, 30 March - 3.30pm.
Thursday, 6 April - 3.30pm.
Thursday, 4 May - 4.00pm.
Thursday, 11 May - 4.00pm.
Thursday, 15 June - 5.00pm.
Thursday, 22 June - 5.00pm.
Thursday, 29 June - 5.00pm.
Thursday, 6 July - 4.00pm.
Thursday, 13 July - 4.00pm.
Thursday, 20 July - 4.00pm.
Thursday, 10 August - 4.00pm.
Thursday, 17 August - 4.00pm
Thursday, 24 August - 4.00pm.
Thursday, 14 September - 3.30pm.
Thursday, 21 September - 3.00pm.
Thursday, 28 September - 3.00pm.
If you can't make any of these dates, please see Stuart or myself and we will see when we can accommodate you at another time.
On The Course...
Next on to the results section and the Men's Mid-week Stableford played last Thursday in really tough cold, windy, conditions (seems to be a reoccurring theme at the moment) Dave Henwood defeated Wally Perring on countback to claim Division One with 35 points. In Division Two Greg Carter got some pay back for all the practice he has put in on the putting green over the last month or so to win Division Two with 37 points, beating Andy Klein and Andy Church on countback.
On Saturday the men had their latest Roll-up Stableford where Nick Studd claimed the win with 39 points, beating Mick Carr by four points.
On Sunday the men had their Monthly Stableford, and after a fine start to the morning (Weather wise), at about 11am the rain came down which scuppered a lot of people's hopes. Congratulations however to all those that toughed it out to the end. Les Dukes ended the toughest of them all and had the best score of the day with 36 points, winning Division One, three ahead of Rob Allen in second. In Division Two Jason Baxter had a nice return to form and won with 35 points beating Dave Butcher by one point. In Division Three Glen Lark beat Tony Cranny on countback, both with 33 points.
Modernising Golf's Rules
Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.
We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.
Have your say here.
