New Arrivals

Next up we have taken delivery of the brand new TaylorMade TP 5 golf balls, which I'm sure will give the Titleist's Pro V1s a run for their money. TaylorMade claim these balls will be two - four yards longer with the driver than the Pro V1s with the same spin and control ratios, and if you don't believe them, here's Spanish golf sensation Jon Rahm testing them out. These fantastic new balls do come at a cost though at £48 a dozen, but I think they could be worth it and I'll certainly be testing and reviewing them next week.

Duncan's Review Of The M Series

In other shop news, please see my latest club review of the TaylorMade 2017 M Series clubs, a couple of word stumbles, but think I'm getting better at it!

Pros news

Pro-Ams

In Pro-Am news, both Oli and I have got Pro-Ams coming up this week. This Tuesday we both have teams for Hunstanton, but are both looking for players for Great Yarmouth & Caister on Thursday, 9 March and Swaffham on Thursday, 16 March. The price for the Pro-Ams has gone up by £5 per person this year so will now be £60 per person, but does include bacon rolls and coffee upon arrival, 18 holes with your friendly Club Professionals, a two course meal after, plus all the prizes we win. If anyone is interested, please speak to Oli or I.

Competition news

On The Course...

Next on to competition news and we'll start with last week's Men's Mid-week Stableford and a fine win in Division One for Jack Flaxman with 40 points. In second came the form horse, beware of the injured golfer, Chris Beare with 39 points and in came "Steady Eddy" Ray Pope with 38 points. In Division Two Ray Henwood won with 39 points, beating John Tremain and Martin Simmonds in to second and third respectively both with 38 points.

On Saturday we had the Mixed Foursomes where we had a win for outgoing Ladies Captain Sue Lyndon and incoming Club Vice Captain Martin Bullen who won with 32 points over 16 holes.

On Sunday the men had the latest Todd & Turner Mugs fourball betterball competition which saw the better than "Steady Eddy" Ray Pope and his partner Pete Tindsley win with a superb 46 points. In second came the fast improving Paul Finch and Donny Graham with 45 points, Finchy having five gross birdies in there off his 15 handicap, wow...

On a pretty horrible Wednesday morning, weather wise,  nine ladies ventured out for a fun yellow ball competition, they all did 10 holes. The winners were Pauline Phillips, Marieta Holmes and Gail Chapman with 42 points, well done ladies for toughing it out!

Club news

Coming Up...

In other news we have an exciting week in store. Following Saturday night's Club AGM, and all beng well, Sunday afternoon will see the Captains' Drive-in where Stuart Low, incoming Club Captain, Vonnie Thornton, incoming Ladies Captain, Tony Bushkes, incoming Seniors' Captain, and Jack Butcher, incoming Junior Captain will show off their driving skills off the first tee at 1:00pm. It would be great to see lots of you here to pile the pressure on, sorry I mean support them, to mark the start of their Captains' years. I would like to wish all of you good luck over the coming year and I look forward to working with you!

Staff news
Danny
A New Era...

Next week, our new Course Manager Danny Perring, will be joing the team. As I'm sure all of you are aware, Danny comes from Aldeburgh GC, where he's been for 10 years working his way up to First Assistant Greenkeeper. He's going to bring a wealth of experience, is qualified to a high level and is looking forward to taking the course to the next level. I for one am very much looking forward to working with Danny and he and I have already had conversations on what we feel we can do to improve the standard of the course. Good luck Danny, I know the members are right behind you!

Tour news

GolfSixes

Aiming for a younger demographic

The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
