Hello golfers,
Happy New Year to everyone and may those handicaps come tumbling down!
Christmas Draw
We'll start this week with the results of the Pro Shop Christmas Draw, drawn in the bar on Friday, 23 September. The winner of a new, fully fitted, PING G driver was none other than Club Vice Captain Stuart Low. No it wasn't a fix as I have witnesses in the bar for the draw, but I must say it is a bit weird as it was only a couple of days before that Stuart and I were chatting about fitting him for a new driver, spooky! Well done Stuart. The other winners were as follows:
- Second place - Terrie Collingwood won a Cobra cart bag worth £100.
- Third place - Keith Yeaman won a pair of Puma golf shoes worth £80.
- Fourth place - Dave Henwood won a Glenmuir club logo'd jumper worth £60.
- Fifth place - Andy Clifford won a dozen Pro V1 balls worth £40.
- Sixth place - Sue Smith won a pair of FootJoy winter gloves worth £20.
Many thanks to everyone who bought squares for your support.

On the Course...
On to competition news now and although it's been a relatively quiet couple of weeks on the competition front, there are still a few I need to report on. Firstly going back to the Ladies Stableford played on Wednesday, 21 December where Heather Harvey won with a superb 35 points followed by Jan Parsons with 33 points.
Before the Christmas break the men had their last Mid-week Stableford played on Thursday, 22 December where Chris Beare won Division One with 38 points followed by Jim Robinson, Callum Potter and Andy Clifford with 36 points. In Division Two Richard O'Neil won with 38 points from Ray Garrod in second with 37 and Anthony Daldry in third with 36 points.
The juniors had their last competition of the year on Friday, 30 December where Jack Butcher completed a superb year by winning with 37 points beating Max Claver in to second with 36 points.
Why you are not getting better at golf? The Instant Gratification Cycle...
I would like you all to read a superb article I read over the Christmas break written by a fellow PGA Professional, Adam Young, who I wholly agree with. Click here to read the report.
My notes on the article:
I thoroughly agree with this article and I see it with so many golfers. No one is really consistent at this game. Better players are just being inconsistent at a higher level.
You may be shooting yourself in the foot by constantly chasing performance. It may be the thing stopping you bridging the gap between where you are now, and where you ultimately want to be.
See the bigger picture. Rather than running around 'buying and selling' in an attempt to find something which works right now, why not work on things which will definitely improve you? Ignore the noise, stay patient, and try to ingrain things which will get you to the next level.
Get quality information from your Professional, myself. I know what you need to do to 'bridge the gap'. Your 15 handicap playing partners might think they know what they are talking about, but there is a reason they are 15 handicappers.
So with this and the January Sales in mind I will be doing a Special Offer throughout January where you can get two hours of coaching for just £60! I would propose this to be a one hour lesson to start off with, discussing the faults you may have, watching you hit a few balls/chips/putts/pitches or bunker shots, letting you see your swing back on video analysis then discuss, and show you, drills and techniques to improve your quality of strike and direction. The following hour I would propose we split in to two half hours for one and two months after the original lesson to make sure you are sticking to the plan and discuss any issues you may have. So if you would like to try and "bridge the gap" then please contact me here.
