Competition news

On the Course...

Despite the weather noticeably changing over the last couple of weeks, Gorleston Golf Club continues to be busy with all the competitive fixtures still going strong, so we'll start this week with competition news and we'll head back to last Thursday's Local Alliance held at Gorleston. The Local Alliance is a competition held between ourselves, Rookery Park and Bungay through the course of the winter over all the courses in rotation. On Thursday we had 46 pairs play in the four ball better ball format and it was a home pair of Tony McCarthy and Ron Clayton who won the day, beating G. Edwards and P. Harrison from Rookery Park and G. Carter and A. Woodcock on countback all with 42 points.

On Saturday we had the latest Saturday Roll-up where Rob Allen won with 42 points with Nick Studd second with 39 and Kevin Whiteley third on 37.

On Sunday we had the first Men's Todd and Turner Mugs of the winter. This is another fourball better ball format played on Sunday morning with an 8.30am shotgun start. It was nice to see Jack Flaxman, who had a lesson a few weeks ago and said after he finished on Sunday; "the magic from the lesson worked", and Bob Cooper win with a fabulous 45 points in tough windy conditions. In second place came Mark Seeley and Donnie Graham also with a superb 44 points.

On Tuesday the seniors played for the Dennis Orton Cup. In first place came Tony Bushkes with 40 points who beat Dave Henwood on countback with Ray Henwood in third with 38 points.

On Saturday the Mixed Team went to Diss for a friendly and despite thoroughly enjoying themselves, they lost 4.5 to a 0.5 and on Monday the Ladies went to St Audry's for a friendly match and lost three matches to one with all the matches being very close.

Pros news

Eaton Pro-Am

Ok now we'll move on to my golf and a great day out I had at the Eaton Pro-Am with my team of Mark Everard, Ray Pope and Ed Ogles. Despite myself not playing very well, I just couldn't find my rhythm, I still managed to contribute to the team score which as a team we did very well and ended up in fourth place, just outside the prizes on 11-under-par in the best two nett score from four on each hole format. Oli also took a team to took to Eaton which consisted of Keith Wright and Graham Tovey plus a friend from Caister and although he beat me for the first time by a shot, he was disappointed as he finished poorly over the last three holes and unfortunately his team didn't fair so well, of which I obviously reminded him that it's all about the team! Thanks to all five members that came with us and I hope you enjoyed your day.

Shop news

New arrivals...

917In shop news we wait with anticipated breath for the arrival of the new Titleist 917 drivers and fairways which should be arriving any minute now. As I said last week, when I tried them out a couple of weeks ago, I certainly found I was 5-10 yards longer with the good one, but it was the miss hits that impressed me where I lost a lot less yardage than what I would have done with the Titleist 915 range I currently use.

If you would like to try one this weekend, please contact me here.
