Captain's Weekend
Ok we'll start this week with Neil Young's Captain's Weekend and what a weekend it was too! On Saturday we had the Captain's Charity Day team Stableford which was won by Andrew Browne, Rob Allen, Clyde Leggett and Ray Pope with a team score of 88 points, in the best two out of four stableford scores counting on every hole format. In second, on countback, was the team of Mark Everard, Ady Price, Nigel Stone and Arthur Fellingham with 88 points and in third was the team of Ed Ogles, Linda Jones, Anne Amos and Mike Amos. Many thanks for a lovely afternoon Neil and for inviting myself and Oli to play too (we won't mention what we both scored).
On Sunday morning we had the Men's Captain's Day Stableford in very breezy, but warm conditions and with a fine 39 points off his six handicap, Tommy Hunt claimed first prize and along with it the Captain's Cleek Trophy. Well done Tommy a great score in tough conditions! In second place came James Bool, armed with a newly fitted Cobra driver and fairway wood, with 38 points and in third came Paul Platten with 37 points beating Les Dukes and Andy Browne on count back.
After lunch on Sunday the ladies joined in for the Mixed Greensomes Stableford. Jane Staden and Peter Aldred won with a fantastic 41 points with Linda and Roy Jones second with 40 points and Mark Everard and Marion Anderson third with 39 points.
Over the weekend everyone involved managed to raise over £2,700 for Neil's two nominated charities, Thera East which supports adults with learning disability and Shine, who provides a range of activities for children and young people with additional needs or disabilities and their families, which I know Neil holds very close to his heart. So well done everyone for raising so much money and massive well done and thank to Captain Neil for a fantastic weekend!
Mid-week Stableford
We'll keep going with the competition news theme and we'll go back to last Thursday's Mid-week Stableford and a win for the form horse Glen Harman. Glen won Division One with 43 points capping a good month or so where he has had a couple of seconds and thirds and had is handicap cut to 11. Well done Glen! In second in Division One came Simon Hellary with 40 points and third came Jack Butcher with 39 points. In Division Two Brian Mckinna won with 42 points, where that came from I don't know, it was only last week he was threatening to have a lesson as his game was in such bad shape! In second came the ever improving Stephen Howick with 41 points and third came Brian Rivett with 39 points.
Ladies Divisional Medal
Yesterday (Wednesday) the ladies played their Divisional Medal and for the Millichamp Trophy. June Elliot claimed the Millichamp Trophy and Division Two with a superb nett 69. Penny Platten won Division One with a nett 77 and Lisa Gillings won Division Three.
Captain/Pro Challenge
Next on to my golf, I better mention it and if you haven't heard already (I'm surprised if you haven't as Mark hasn't exactly been quiet about), Neil and I lost our latest Captain/Pro match against Mark Everard and Mal Crozier by three holes. It was a real topsy turvy match with Neil and I three up at the turn, but then Mark and Mal played some great golf over our back nine, which was the front nine, and were nett seven for nine holes to claim the match. Well done Mark and Mal, I can't remember the last time I lost a match after being three up at the turn, if ever, so well done.
No Captain/Pro match this week, but I am playing in The Richard Hunt Memorial Day tomorrow which I'm very much looking forward to. Neil and I have got a couple more dates though for the Captain/Pro matches, as I know some of you would like to play us, so we now have the following dates available:
- Thursday, 18 August - 4.30pm
- Wednesday, 24 August - 4.30pm
- Wednesday, 7 September - 4pm
If anyone is available to play us, please click here to get in touch.
