Hello golfers,
In what was a comparatively quiet week here at Gorleston, we'll start with a bit of shop news and I have just taken delivery of the new PING iBlade to add to the PING fitting cart and what beautiful club it is too (see photo). Not necessarily for the higher handicapper, but for all those low handicappers looking to change irons, PING have brought out a real nice option. So much so that Oli has gone up to Gainborough today, PING's HQ (as a Pro now he wants to look at all the different driver shaft options that they have up there) to get himself fitted for some! If you would like to try this new range for yourself, please click here to book a fitting with one of the team.
As a reminder all the Titleist 915 drivers, fairways and hybrids have recently dropped dramatically in price. Drivers are down from £329 to £259, fairways are down from £199 to £159 and hybrids are down from £179 to £139, but please book yourself in for fitting quick as it is only while stocks last and I have a couple of fittings booked in this weekend.
Men's Mid-week Stableford
Next on to competition news and we'll start with last Thursday's Men's Mid-week Stableford and on a afternoon of good scoring, Daniel Crosby beat Matt Alp and Glen Harman on countback, all with 40 points to claim Division One. In Division Two Paul Gee beat Anthony Wren on countback, both with 40 points, to win with Stephen Howick third on 38 points.
Roll-up Stableford
On Saturday we had the latest Roll-up Stableford where Paul Finch beat Ian Harbord (yes my unlimited lesson man again), both with 42 points, on countback to win, with Bob Canham third on 41 points. Well done Finchy, just imagine how good you'd be with a driver!
36 Hole Open Eclectic
On Sunday we had the 36 Hole Open Eclectic competition with 26 pairs taking part in this foursomes format. Visitors Victor and Anne Ferguson won the event with an eclectic score of nett 60.5 over the two rounds in what was a great day, enjoyed by everyone.
Golf Foundation Commemorative Plate and Clayton Cup
Yesterday, Wednesday, the ladies played their Golf Foundation Commemorative Plate and Clayton Cup. Terrie Collingwood won the Golf Foundation Commemorative Plate with 36 points and Jayne Needham won the Clayton Cup with 33 points. Sandra Gale won Division Three with 28 points.
Captain/Pro Challenge
On to my golf now and the latest Captain/Pro challenge match against Reg Cadmore and Chris Beare. In what was a very competitive match, Reg was very steady and Chris made a few birdies, Neil and I managed to get two up with three to play. However, following some good golf by both Reg and Chris down the last three holes, I ended up having to hole a tricky three footer on the last to halve the match, which thankfully I did. Thanks for the challenge Reg and Chris who will go on to the Captain/Pro Challenge Final on Saturday, 8 October starting level with the course.
Captain's Weekend
This weekend we have Club Captain, Neil Youngs, Captain's Weekend which should be a great weekend. Neil has kindly asked Oli and I to play on Saturday afternoon which we are looking forward to and let's hope we all raise lots of money for Neil's two charities, Thera East and Shine, which will both benefit from the weekend. Thera East supports adults with learning disability (click here to learn more) and Shine provides a range of activities for children and young people with additional needs or disabilities and their families (click here to learn more).
