Hello golfers,
Ok so my tips, typically, didn't turn out well in The Open, but what an Open Championship it was with Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson playing what seemed like a different course to the others! Ray Pope will be one very happy man as he had Henrik Stenson in the Pro Shop Sweep and therefore has had £145 added to his pro shop account. Full results are as follows:
First place - H. Stenson - R. Pope (£100), second place - P. Mickelson - E. Reid (£60), third place - JB Holmes - C. Grant (£40), fourth place - S Stricker - G. Eagling (£20), tied fifth place - R. McIlroy - M. Sanderson, also in tied fifth place - T. Hatton - D. Henwood (£4) and also in tied fifth place - S. Garcia - S. Pearce (£4).
First round low score - P. Mickelson - E. Reid - 63 (£20). Second round low score - H. Stenson - R. Pope - 65 (£20), third round low score - H. Stenson - R. Pope - S. Stricker and G. Eagling - B. Snedeker - E. Reid and H. Porteous - I. Harbord - 68 (£5 each). Fourth round low score - H. Stenson - R. Pope - 63 (£20).
Unfortunately with USPGA so quickly upon us this year, because of the Olympics, it starts next Thursday there will be no sweep for that but look out for our special sweepstake for the Ryder Cup in September.
Lombard Trophy
Ok next we'll move on to my golf and a great day out I had with Clyde Leggett at Thetford for the Lombard Trophy last Wednesday. Although neither of us played that well, I enjoyed Clyde's company for the day and had a superb round of golf, thanks Clyde!
On the Course...
Next on to competition news and we'll start with a fantastic win for our Tolly Cobbold team at home to Stowmarket on Sunday. With a great team performance they managed to win 13 up overall and now go on to the semi-finals to face Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club at Diss Golf Club on Sunday, 14 August. Thanks once again to Club Vice Captain Stuart Low's company Bluelimit Surveys Ltd for the sponsorship of the Glenmuir teamwear. As you can see they all look very smart!
Next on to last week's Men's Mid-week Stableford and a win for Dave Henwood with 38 points on countback from Mike Haylett in second and Mark Seeley in third, both with 37 points. In Division Two Brian Rivett won on countback from Peter Aldred with 34 points and Ady Price was third with 33 points.
On Saturday we had the latest Roll-up Stableford where Ian Harbord claimed first place on countback from Jonathan Ling, both with 39 points, although Jonathan was probably the big winner as he won a double roll over on the twos and won £34 on to his pro shop account. Mark Seeley came close again with a third place (38 points).
On Wednesday Jackie Walsh continued her good form by winning the PING Fourball Betterball competition with her partner Jayne Needham (44 points). Terrie Collingwood and Thelma Evans came second with 38 points.
