Cobra Fitting Day
We'll start this week with some shop news and next Wednesday, 5 July we are having a Cobra Fitting Day. As with all fitting days this is a great way to try all the very latest Cobra equipment with the Cobra Technician bringing a lot more shaft options than I can possibly stock. We are taking individual half hour booking slots from 1pm - 5pm so let me know if you would like to book a slot by clicking here.
On the Course...
Next on to competition news and a fantastic win for our Stenson team on Saturday defeating Ipswich Golf Club by 6.5 matches to 5.5. This is a great win for the lads in this scratch competition as Ipswich is probably the strongest club in Suffolk for handicaps of five and below. In the next round they will face Stowmarket at home on Saturday, 23 July. Thanks once again to our Club President, Douglas Gray, and his company D&J Metals for the sponsor of the team kit.
Also on Saturday we had the Mixed Guildford Greensomes which was won by Terrie and Barry Collingwood with 44 points. In second place, on countback, came Jackie and Mel Walsh on 43 points ahead of Linday and Roy Jones also on 43 points.
On Sunday the men had the Monthly Stableford with Andy Patrick winning Division One with 37 points. Patrick Greeney and Ray Thomson came second and third respectively both with 36 points. In Division Two Jack Flaxman defeated Andy Klein on countback both with 38 points and in Division Three Alan Attoe had a nice return to form and won with 34 points.
Unfortunately last week's Mid-week Stableford was cancelled due to the terrible weather, but the Captain Neil and I still managed to get out and play our latest Captain/Pro match against Chris Duffy and Daniel Crosby, although we probably wish we hadn't. All seemed well on the first hole as Neil confidently struck his drive straight down the middle, struck his second shot to 20ft and dually holed the putt for a three nett two, one up! Unfortunately that was the highlight of our game and things went rapidly down hill from there and eventually we ended up losing five down. Fair play to Chris and Daniel, they both played very well in the conditions and actually Neil and I were happy to get in having only lost five down. Well played gents! Next up on Thursday we're taking on the Cater brothers, Tony and John, where Neil will be on fire having been on a mid-season training break, with the Vice Captain Stuart, to Le Touqet, although training might not be the correct word.
On Tuesday Ivan Harvey continued his resurgence in form by winning the Seniors' Harold Mason Cup with a superb 41 points, well done Ivan! In second place came Mike Haylett with 40 points and Tony McCarthy beat Peter Aldred and Ron Clayton in to third on countback, all with 38 points.
Foremost Champs
On Monday I had a great day out to The Oxfordshire for the Foremost Golf Championships. I thoroughly enjoyed the course but with the rough up and the fairways soft, boy did you have to drive it well which unfortunately I didn't. A front nine of 6 pars and birdie, but out in seven over summed up my day, my bad tees shots, unfortunately were just too bad!
Open Sweepstake
With the Open Championship starting on Thursday, 14 July we have opened our next sweepstake, again squares are £2 and if you draw the winner of The Open, you can stand to win over £100 on to your pro shop account.
