Hello golfers,

We'll start this week with a fantastic pro shop promotion "The Complete Equipment Solution". This promotion entitles you to a FREE fitting session and a FREE after-sales lesson, worth £55, on any clubs purchased over the value of £299.

CESYou have all heard of my successful fitting and lesson stories over the last year, and there's another coming later, but I really can't overemphasize the importance of having the correct equipment to suit your game. Having the correct equipment and taking part in lessons will be sure to improve your game, after all everyone's different and it all depends how much your current equipment suits your game and what type of swing you have. If you're struggling to enjoy your game at the moment, then why not come see me and we can have a chat about your game, take a look at your equipment and develop a little plan to help you get back to enjoying the game again, after all that's why we play...

Competition news

On the Course...

Ok next on to competition news and we'll go back to last Wednesday and the Ladies Spring Open Am-Am. 20 teams from 10 different clubs visited Gorleston for an event which is for visitors only.

The Gorleston ladies, hosting the event as usual did an admirable job in ensuring all the visitors had an enjoyable round, with several of our ladies acting as ball spotters as the rough is quite punitive, while others were on duty at the halfway hut and the remainder were sorting through the cards, checking results and selling raffle tickets. For many of our guests, the Gorleston event is a regular fixture in their yearly calendars and many recognisable faces returned yesterday.

It was a team representing Royal Cromer and Weston Park that managed the best round of the day, amassing 93 points to take the winners' prizes home with them. It was a tight battle for second place between two teams from Halesworth who both ended up with 91 points, while the Sprowston Manor team returned 89 points to take the fourth place.

Next we'll move on to the Centenary Cup played last Thursday and a win for Matt Alp with his newly fitted Mizuno MP15 irons. Matt, as a five handicapper, was looking for a bit more consistency in his irons with distance control and trajectory and after trying several different shafts we found the one that did just that for him and it's great to see it's already making a difference. Matt won with a nett 69 and beat Owen Darby, Chris Beare and Jack Keyzor who came second, third and fourth respectively all with a nett 71.

Saturday we had a Roll-up Stableford and in a small field, the weather wasn't great and few people were away, Rob Allen won with 38 points. Rob played with me in the Pro-Am on the Thursday before (we'll go in to that later) and obviously the inspiration of playing with me made all the difference on Saturday. Well done Rob!

On Sunday we had another Roll-up Stableford, this time with a few more people playing in it, and David (his handicap must of caught up with him now) Butcher once again took home the spoils with 39 points, well done David! In second place came Jeff Helmore with 37 points who beat Ian (I never finish outside the top 3) Harbord on countback also with 37 points.

Next a brief mention for our Seniors' Parks Trophy team who, unfortunately, lost away at Woodbridge in the first round on Tuesday. I'm sure they all looked very smart though in their team shirts kindly sponsored by Brian Duffy at Steel Services.

Pros news

Bawburgh Pro-Am

Ok now back to that Pro-Am I mentioned earlier and what can only be described at a bad day at the office. As you probably re-call from last week, it was at Bawburgh and I took Rob Allen, Paul Finch and Mark Seeley. Unfortunately none of us played that well, but we all enjoyed ourselves on what was a lovely day weather wise. For me I lost my patience with myself, I hit a couple of good shots over the backs of greens in the first few holes which put me in the wrong spots in which I failed to recover from and rather than shrugging it off as I should do, I dwelled on it and never really recovered. It's something I've really noticed over the last few years, the better I deal with adversity on the course the better my score so that's something I've really got to work on going forward.
