Captain/Pro Challenge
We'll start this week with the Captain/Pro Challenge matches, or lack of them. Despite everyone I speak to saying they are going to challenge Neil and myself, they need to speak to their partner to confirm a date, so far we have only played one match. Sure the weather hasn't been great over the last month, but Neil and I are made of stern stuff and willing to get out there. So come on, let's get these matches in as quick as possible, because as the summer goes on both Neil and I will have less time due to other commitments. The challenge dates Neil and I have penciled in over the next few weeks are as follows, although they can be changed slightly to suit you:
- Sunday, 1 May - 8am (yes this Sunday)
- Thursday, 5 May - 4pm (you can play the Stableford as well)
- Sunday, 15 May - 8am

Men's Mid-week Stableford
On to competition results and a busy week. First we'll start with the first Summer Men's Mid-week Stableford of the season played last Thursday. On a tough day Martin Pestle won Division One with 37 points with Richard Reynolds second with 35 points on countback from Rob Allen and Daniel Crosby. In Division Two Mick Soards beat Paul Finch on countback, both with 36, to win with Robert Jones in third with 35.
Saturday Stableford
After the success of the Sunday Roll-up Stablefords, last Saturday we had the first Saturday Roll-up Stableford. These have been introduced as there are generally so few competitions on a Saturday, so this will be ideal for those that can only play on a Saturday to get some competitive action. On another tough day (haven't they all been over the last month), my man Ian Harbord won with 42 points. For those who don't know Ian, you will regularly see him in the shop practicing at lunch times. Ian took one of my unlimited lesson packages back in the winter and has worked very hard over the last few months to implement what we have spoken about, which is now bearing fruit. Great stuff Ian and I think we both know this is just the start of a great summer for your golf. In second place on Saturday came Callum Potter with 38 points and in third came Andrew Church with 37 points. There will be another Stableford Roll-up this Saturday.
Sunday Roll-up Stableford
On Sunday we had the Sunday Roll-up Stableford which saw Mike Harness win with 38 points. Mick Carr came second with 37 points and Tony Marsham beat Jim Robinson to third on countback with 34 points.
Ladies Daily Mail Competition
Next on to the ladies and a win in the Daily Mail competition for Christine Knappett and Anne Amos against Caldecott Hall at Caldecott. They had to give 16 shots and eventually won 4&2. Round three they drew Southwold at home but due to the fact that they could not arrange a mutual date to play, the Daily Mail tossed a coin and they now have a walk-over to round four to be played after the draw takes place on Sunday, 15 May. Good luck ladies!
Ladies Yellow Ball Competition
On Wednesday, the ladies played a Yellow Ball competition with the team of Jan Splistead, Maggie Hart and Jan Parsons winning with 84 points. In second came Andree Bloomfield, Victoria Watson and Terri Wilkinson with 78 points. After the last couple of group lessons I hope everyone was able to get over any bunkers around the greens and if you did go in them, were able to get out first time?
Coming up at Gorleston...
Ok just a couple of reminders to now and first the Titleist wedge and ball fitting afternoon on Monday, 9 May. This is a great opportunity to find out which ball suits your game plus a chance to try the new Vokey SM6 wedges.
Secondly, if you have any friends or relatives that might fancy giving golf a go, on Saturday, 7 May I am holding the start of a four week beginners course (11.30am - 12.30pm). At only £20 each, this will give them a great, inexpensive, way of trying golf.
