Junior Coaching
We'll start this week with a bit of junior news for once. As you may or may not know I have been taking a select group of juniors out on the course every other Sunday afternoon to get them used to playing on the course (these are the ones that are just below full handicap status). They have been progressing very nicely, so much so that on Sunday Ceryse Fuller (Keith Ridsdale's granddaughter) achieved her first hole-in-one on the 2nd hole, how many of you can say that? Ok, it was off the blue tees, but the hole still measures over 160 yards and is a fantastic achievement especially at the age of only 12. Well done Ceryse you'll soon be better than your Grandad, if you're not already!
Continuing on the junior theme I have/will of been in to three schools this week and taught over 100 children how to play golf. All be it with plastic clubs and foam balls, but the enthusiasm they have shown I will not be surprised if I have to split my junior sessions in to three on Saturday instead of two. If anyone's child, grandchild or neighbours fancies having a go at golf, the beginners junior sessions welcome all ages and take place on Saturdays from 1pm - 2pm.
Get into Golf
Talking about beginners I have arranged the latest Get into Golf adult, beginners, group golf lessons starting on Saturday, 7 May. Lessons are for complete adult beginners and the course will run for four weeks, finishing on Saturday, 4 June (missing Saturday, 28 May) all from 11.30am - 12.30pm. It is a great, inexpensive at only £20 for the four weeks, way to get a taste of golf. If you know of anyone that might fancy having a little try of golf then click here or point them my way. All equipment can be provided.
Academy Course
All of which leads me nicely on to developments on the Academy Course up on the practice ground. As you may have all hopefully seen, the Five Hole Academy Course is starting to take shape nicely and many thanks to greenkeepers who have put in the effort to build the course for me! Holes will range from 80 yards through to 150 yards and will be a perfect place for adult and junior beginners to gain experience of playing before they get to go on to the main course. Obviously, as members, you are entitled to use it but please treat it with the same care as the main course as. Although it won't be anywhere near the same quality of the main course, I still want to keep it looking good as for many beginners this will be their first impression of Gorleston Golf Club which will hopefully lead on to many more new members.
Apology...
Ok now on to competition news and first an apology to Daniel Crosby, it was he and not Danny Western who partnered Chris Duffy to win the Winter Foursomes Final the other week, so we'll done Daniel!
Monthly Stableford
Next we'll move on to Sunday's Monthly Stableford and Lombard Trophy Qualifier and congratulations to Clyde Leggett who won the Stableford with 42 points and wins the fantastic prize of partnering me in The Lombard Trophy Pro-Am at Thetford on Wednesday, 13 July. Clyde can you also keep the 22nd and 23rd of September clear for the Grand Final in Portugal once we've qualified around Thetford, thanks mate! Lee Chapman won division one with 41 points and Andy Ingham won division two with 38 points, Clyde won division three.
Local Alliance Event
Last Thursday we had the latest local alliance held at Gorleston and congratulations to two of our members, Glenn Lark and Graham Leach, who won with 44 points. In second place came another of our two members, Jack Flaxman and Gerry Eagling, with 43 points.
