Apologies...
Ok we'll start this week with competition news and first off an apology to Christine Knappett and Anne Amos who actually won their Daily Mail match against Rookery Park 4&2 and not lost in a play-off as I said in last week's newsletter. Actually it was the Ladies Sunday Mail team that lost in a play-off to Richmond Park last week, so apologies to those concerned.
Ladies Wednesday Texas Scramble
We'll stay with the ladies for the moment and a win for Pauline Phillips, Maureen Duckett, Andree Bloomfield and Vicky Peake with a score of nett 62.4 in the Ladies Wednesday Texas Scramble competition which beat Maggie Hart, Heather Harvey and Marieta Holmes in to second place who had a score of nett 64.8.
Mid-week Stableford
Next we'll move on to last Thursday's Mid-week Stableford and a win in Division One for Eddie Reid, armed with his new set of, swing zone custom fit PING irons, with a score of 37 points. Second in Division One came Colin Laws with 36 points with Jim Clarke third with 35 points. In Division Two Brian Rivett won with 37 points with Bob Hasell second on countback from Geoff Hall and Kevin Shaw, all with 36 points.
Todd and Turner Mugs
On Sunday the men had the latest addition of the Todd and Turner Mugs with the father and son partnership of James and Jamie Bool taking the spoils with a fantastic 46 points in the fourball betterball format. In fact, scoring was great all morning with 17 pairs getting 40 points or more. The new 90% handicap allowance, rather than 3/4, is going to make a real difference to the scoring of fourball betterball competitions and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 50 pointer in the summer, that's why I'm only playing 3/4 allowance in the Captain/Pro matches as I only roughly win half the matches I play anyway!
Sheringham Pro-Am
Ok now on to my golf and the Pro-Am I played in at Sheringham, with Neil Youngs, Mark Everard and Bob Richardson, last Friday. Although none of us played that well, not helped by a bad start and a brisk northerly wind, we managed to get it round with myself shooting a 77 for tied seventh place and the team shooting 141 which finished mid-table in the field of 25. As always happens in golf, my new cross handed putting stroke continues to work reasonably well, but I'm still struggling with my golf swing, blooming typical!
Caister Pairs
Yesterday (Wednesday) I played in the Caister Pairs at Great Yarmouth & Caister and despite another poor start, I managed to get it round in 73, again my putting was solid and after the first few holes I started to find my swing again which is encouraging for next week as I have two events. The first is at one of the best nine hole courses in the country, Royal Worlington on Thursday in a Suffolk PGA event and the second I'm off to Swaffham with Bob Richardson, Angus Smith and Bill Haykin in the latest Norfolk PGA Pro-Am event. I should just say many thanks to my partner at Caister, Rob Allen, for partnering me and although we didn't score great, 36 points, it was a fun day!
As I said I've got a busy week next week. I'm also babysitting Tuesday so I'll be away for a few days, but I am in all weekend if you would like to catch up with me for whatever reason.
