Friday Night League

We'll start this week with results of the Friday Night League played over the winter months on the simulator. This was a nine hole Texas Scramble Challenge over the back nine of the Brabazon course at The Belfry. Five teams took part and the winners with a fantastic nett 29, seven under, were Danny Perring, Jack Keyzor, Tommy Hunt and Josh Manser. Each member of the winning team has had £40 put on to their pro shop account. Well done gents a fantastic score! In second place came Chris Duffy, Daniel Crosby, Matt Alp and Jamie Bool with a nett 31 and they have had £25 each added to their pro shop accounts. In third place came David Wooden, Mark Everard, Nigel Stone and Ady Price with a nett 34 and each receive £10 each on to their pro shop accounts. The evenings were enjoyed by all 20 players that took part and everyone seemed to love how realistic the simulation on the Foresight GC2 is, even if they did find the putting difficult. Many thanks to all those that took part, your support is greatly appreciated and hopefully next winter we'll have a few more teams taking part.

Monthly Stableford

In other competition news the men played there latest Monthly Stableford on Sunday. Darren Hellery won Division One with 38 points with his brother Simon Hellery coming second with 37 points on countback from David Uden, also with 37 points, in third. Division Two was won by David Marshall with 38 points with Gerry Eagling second with 36 points on countback from Andy Garforth, also on 36. In Division Three Martin Potter won with 38 points with Alan Robbins second with 36 points on countback from Clyde Leggett, also with 36.

Ladies Daily Mail Match

Also last Sunday the ladies played their Daily Mail Match against Richmond Park. This match, that was supposed to be played at Richmond but got rearranged to a home match as Richmond was just too wet, was a very closely fought match. Unfortunately Gorleston lost at the first extra hole in a play-off. Bad luck ladies!

Ladies Divisional Stableford

On Wednesday the Ladies had their latest Divisional Stableford in which Anne Amos had a nice return to form with a very nice 39 points to win Division One. Penny Platten came second with 38 points. In Division Two Maureen Duckett won with 37 points, with Marion Anderson second with 31. In Division Three Terri Wilkinson won with 32 points, with Marieta Holmes second with 31 points.

 

Academy Course Development

Ok now on to academy news and the cutting out of the new Academy Course up on the practice ground. On Wednesday, Derek the Greenkeeper, along with Mark the Head Greenkeeper and myself went up to the practice ground to map out and cut in the first cut of our five academy holes. This Academy course will be open to all members to use but primarily it will used by the young juniors and new adult golfers as somewhere to go practice, rather than just stand bashing balls aimlessly down the range. Hopefully, weather permitting, it should be open by end of April/early May and should lead, eventually, to some new full members.

 

Masters Sweepstake

Ok lastly with the first major of the year, the US Masters, only four weeks away we have opened the first sweepstake of the year. Squares are £2 each of which you will be drawn a player. If your player wins you will win £60 in your pro shop account. If he comes second you will get £40, third £20, fourth £15 and fifth £5. Also if your player has the lowest score of the day you will win £10 for your pro shop account. So please pop in and buy a square or two and cheer on your player.

I have the Sheringham Pro-Am tomorrow with Neil the Captain, Mark the former Captain and Bob Richardson the ex-scratch golfer, so a good team and I'm really looking forward to it.
