The Captain/Pro Challenge is back!
The first news we'll start with this week is the return of the Captain/Pro Challenge for 2016. For those that did not play in this event last year, it is open to all members with a handicap and is challenge four ball betterball match against myself and the incoming Captain for 2016, Neil Youngs. The match is off the old ¾ handicap (I don't win enough matches in ¾ format let alone the new 90% format for four balls that England Golf is recommending) and the score will count towards the Captain/Pro Finals day on Saturday, 24 September. For example if you win by four holes you will take a four point head start in to the finals day which will be a four ball betterball stableford format, but if you lose by four holes you will start with a four point penalty. But the most important thing about these matches is that they are great fun and gives Neil and I a chance to play with and get to know you more!
The list of dates Neil and I are available is below, but if you cannot make any of those dates please see me and we might be able to arrange another time. The cost is £15 per pair with all the money to go back in to the prize table for the event on Saturday, 24 September. Suffolk PGA Event
Last week I went to Aldeburgh for the first time for my debut in a Suffolk PGA event and although I only shot 75, which was good enough for sixth place. I absolutely loved the golf course which was in amazing condition for this time of year and had it not been for a couple wayward tee shots on 9 and 10 and a couple of customary three putts on the back nine, I could have done so much better! Howver for the first outing for the year I was very pleased with my efforts and look forward to going back to Aldeburgh some time soon. This coming Tuesday I'm off to another fantastic course, Hunstanton, for a Pro-Am with the Cater brothers and Kevin Stokes of which I'm very much looking forward to! I'll let you know how I get on next week!
Ladies Divisional Medal
Ok now we move on to club competition news and we'll start with the Ladies Divisional Medal played on Wednesday, 10 February which saw a win for Heather Harvey with a fantastic four under CSS 71. In second place came Edna Langston with an also impressive nett 73 and Andree Bloomfield came third with a nett 75.
Todd and Turner Mugs
On Sunday, 14 February the men played the latest Todd and Turner Mugs with Daniel Crosby and Darren Hellary taking the spoils with 41 points. In second place came Paul Finch and Mark Sealy with 40 points who beat three other pairs in to second place on countback.
Friday Night Swing Zone Challenge
In the latest addition of the Friday Night Swing Zone Challenge Captain Mark Everard, armed with a new 3-wood (well new to him, it's 20 years old with a wooden head not 40, but it's progress) and his team of Ady Price, Nigel Stone and Dave Wooden had great fun on there way to shooting 38 (nett 35) good enough for third place at the moment! The winners will be announced at the end of the month.
