Hello golfers,
Ok for some reason last week's email was cut a little short so a lot of info of club competitions was missed off (something to do with Apple and Microsoft formats).
Men's Daily Mail match
So we'll start this week's news with the Men's Daily Mail match played last Sunday, 31 January. Unfortunately the match ended with a defeat at home to Great Yarmouth & Caister. Caister brought over a team of relatively high handicappers, compared to the team we fielded, and that proved to be the difference with our boys having to give too many shots and eventually losing the match three matches to two.
Ladies Divisional Medal
Next we'll go back to last Wednesday, 27 January and the Ladies Division Medal. Jan Spilsted won Division One with an impressive nett 72 in blowy conditions with Chris Knappett second with a nett 75. In Division Two Victoria Watson won with a nett 78 on countback from Lisa Gillings also with a nett 78.
Mid-week Stableford
Next up we have the Mid-week Stableford played on Thursday, 28 January. In Division One, Les Dukes won with a superb 42 points followed by Martin Ling in second with 39 points and Jim Robinson in third with 38 points. In Division Two Phil Evans, armed with a new Cobra driver purchased only last week, won with 39 points followed by Arthur Simmonds in second with 37 and Glenn Lark in third with 35 points. Well done to all you gents, but especially Martin Ling who with his 39 points who has had his handicap cut to single figures which I know was a big goal for him.
Ok now on to more recent competition news and last week's mid-week Stableford. In Division One Steven Hall came in first with 38 points on countback from Bob Richardson also with 38. In Division Two Brian Rivett won with 36 points with Paul Gee second with 35.
Men's Monthly Medal
Finally in competition news on Sunday the men had there latest Monthly Medal. Dave Henwood won Division One with a nett 71 on countback from Paul Platten also with a 71. In Division Two Geoff Hall had the best score of the day with a superb nett 66 which led to victory over Andrew Church in second with a nett 72. In Division Three Paul Finch won with a nett 68, he must of got that driver and fairway wood going. Clyde Leggett came in second place with nett 72.
Suffolk PGA Event
In regards to my golf, well the season is just about to start. I'm off to Aldeburgh for the first time this week in a Suffolk PGA event which I'm really looking forward to as I've heard so many good things about the course. After that I have a Pro-Am at Hunstanton (one of my favourite courses) on Tuesday, 23 February of which Tony Cater, John Cater and Kevin Stokes are joining me. I'll put a list up of other Pro-Ams shortly should you want to join me on another occasion. I will also be putting up a list for the Captain Pro matches for this year so if anyone fancies taking me and the incoming captain, Neil Youngs, on please put your name down ASAP as I feel, now most of you have got to know me and my competitiveness, they could be very popular! In the meantime if anyone would like to join me for my practice games, I tend to play on a Thursday afternoon, please click here and let me know and we'll arrange a game.
Night Golf
On Saturday, 20 February the club's favourite trick shot artist, Dave Edwards, is coming back to Gorleston but this time to play a bit of night golf. This should be a great night and for those who have not tried night golf before it is a really different, fun experience. Dave I'm sure will be giving his thoughts on the fine golf swings we posses at this club and it will be a great send off to our fantastic Club Captain, Mark Everard, as his year comes to an end. Tickets are £30 each and includes all the night golf equipment needed, plus Tim will be laying on some fantastic food as always! If you would like to enter please see David or Jane in the office.
New arrivals...
As I stated a couple of weeks ago I have just taken delivery of the latest Cobra range for 2016. This is the time of year when all of the new sock arrives in the pro shop, so please come in and TRY ANY OF THE LATEST STOCK that will be coming in over the next few months from my main suppliers including Wilson Staff, Cobra, Titleist, PING and Mizuno. If you're looking for more distance, accuracy or consistency with any of your clubs, I'm sure Oli or myself can help you with your game either with equipment advice or advice on your swing! Click here to get in touch for more details.
Ok that's it for this week, wish me luck at Aldeburgh and enjoy the rest of the newsletter!
