Local Alliance
We'll start this week with the Local Alliance played last Thursday at Gorleston Golf Club. For those unfamiliar with Local Alliance it is a pairs fourball better ball competition played at Gorleston, Rookery Park and Bungay alternatively throughout the winter. Thursday welcomed over 80 players from all three clubs to Gorleston on a lovely December morning. Carl Ford and Martin Pestle certainly enjoyed themselves as they picked up first place with Les Duke and Mick Soards second.
Men's Maddock Tankards Greensomes Stableford
On Sunday we had the Men's Maddock Tankards Greensomes Stableford which was won by Rob Allen and Paul Finch with 42 points. I played with Rob about a month ago and thought it wouldn't be long before he would join the winners' circle, well done gents! The wily pair of Ady Price and Nigle Stone came second with 41 points.
Ladies Divisional Stableford
In the Ladies Divisional Stableford played on Wednesday, Jayne Standen won Division One with 36 points with Pauline Phillips second with 34 points and Heather Harvey third with 33 points. In Division Two Sheena Emrick won with 37 points with Marion Anderson second with 31 points and June Elliot third with 29 points. In Division Three Andree Bloomfield won with 31 points, Lisa Gillings came second with 28 points and Maggie Hart was third with 26 points.
Junior Coaching
In coaching news I've been keeping myself busy over the last month or so by taking golf in to the local schools. Over the last month I have attended four different schools and given over 100 children a chance to play golf who may have never tried the sport before. This has already led to four new juniors attending my Saturday coaching sessions with hopefully a few more to follow. Each child was given information about the club and what we have to offer which should hopefully raise the profile of the club a bit more and might in turn get a few mums and dads wanting to give golf a try too!
Last minute Christmas gift ideas...
With Christmas fast approaching how about some last minute stocking fillers? I've just taken delivery of some fantastic quality club logo beanies, mittens and towels. The beanies are fleece lined and are only £9.95 along with the towels and the super cosy mittens which are £19.95. Perfect for when that cold weather arrives!
Christmas at Gorleston!
Continuing on the Christmas theme, we will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. I know I'm far too good to Oli! I'm actually going to take a bit of time off over Christmas, I'm away from Wednesday, 23 December to Tuesday, 29 December so Oli will be manfully holding the fort in my absence.
Ok this is the last newsletter of 2015 so I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for making me feel so welcome at Gorleston Golf Club and for all your support you have given me over the last eight months. I know with your continued support and by working together we can continue to make Gorleston Golf Club the success we all want it to be!
If I don't see you before have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
